This history booklet is one part of three in the Romantic Friendships series. I created these resources for the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) to teach youth & educators about the history of women-loving-women. The creation of this booklet was funded in part by Canadian Heritage.
'Romantic friendships' was a term often given to women in deep emotional and sometimes physical relationships, but this classification was dependent on women's position in society. Racialized and lower-class women were called many other names, and faced greater persecution for their relationships.
In this history booklet, you can read more about the history of romantic friendships, including excerpts from letters and the lives of various women across Canada.
